Carol Stream's median home was built around 1984, which puts it noticeably newer than the 1976 median across the wider service area. That matters because a house built in the early-to-mid 1980s almost always came with a factory torsion-spring system on a standard steel sectional door, not the older extension-spring setups you still find in towns with 1950s and 1960s stock. Across the broader area covered from Wheaton, homes range from 1938 to 2003, but Carol Stream sits solidly in the middle band, past the oldest side-mount hardware and before the heavier insulated doors that showed up closer to 2000. With 14,310 households here, that's a fairly deep, fairly uniform pool of doors from the same construction window - same spring wind direction, same track width, same rough opener mounting. It's also a fast-growing suburb by Chicago standards, and a lot of that housing went up in tract developments, so you'll see the same handful of door models repeated block after block. When we get a call from this area, we usually have a decent guess at the hardware before we even open the truck.
